Another great season over

All Vikings players should be proud of their efforts on and around the rugby field this year. From Under 8’s with Jeremy and Duncan teaching them new skills and having fun to Under 10’s with Shaun, Andrew and Rae progressing to tackling and more serious skills of the game to Under12’s with Shane, Roasty and Mel challenging the players to cover the whole full-sized field, to Under 14’s with Cush and Tony going up to Under 19 rules and really developing in the areas of scrums and field play to Under 16’s with Lodgey, Timmy and Fiona - just the bit, looking forward to seeing some of these players going into Under 18’s next season.

Finals Results for Vikings

Our three teams who were able to compete in finals all had close games leading up to and during the finals. Under 12’s had an exciting game against Neds to finish their season off winning against a team that had beaten them in the first round and narrowly missed out on playing in the finals.

Under 14’s had a fantastic season, ending up 3rd, but were unlucky to lose to Southern Suburbs in the semi-finals when Souths kicked a penalty goal near the end of the game resulting in a three point lead for Souths – Final score 22 – 19

Under 16’s were up there with the best, winning more than they lost in a very tight competition, battling through times when there were players out with illnesses and injuries and relying on strong players from U/14’s to back them up when they were short of players. Despite all of this, the 16’s ended up 3rd on the ladder and played against Brighton in the semi-final in a game where the score didn’t really give a good picture as Vikings kept the pressure on Brighton right up until the last 10 minutes – Brighton 24 – Vikings 5.

Well done coaches and team managers, parents, caregivers and players.

Thanks to everyone who helped on the juniors’ BBQ at Bailey Reserve during finals. All clubs have been helping each other by taking over the BBQ at their allocated times and not letting each other down. Thanks to Evan, Judy and Brent Duff, Kath Goodrich, Matt Connor, Mike, Matt & Jacob Parry, Jed Chitty, Adrian and Alex Hackworth who have all donated their time.

Vikings Quiz Night

The quiz night held on 27th July at Port Adelaide Rugby Club went off like a rocket with a great turnout of people and some beautiful prizes that were given out. Mark Cushen (Cush) and James Lodge (Lodgey) kept the crowd entertained with challenging questions and games and did a great job of organizing the night. Kath’s balloon game was very popular and Rhys hopefully hasn’t got a toothache after winning the jar full of lollies. Thanks to the bar staff who were looking after all the thirsty participants and were joining in with the “Bar Stewards”. The “Woodville Crew” were the winners, with the “Nautical Challengers” coming second. Vikings raised $720 from the quiz night.

Thank you to Port Adelaide and Woodville Rugby Clubs who have very generously given each of the state representatives a cash gift to help with their expenses. The Vikings club has also helped with expenses. It is a great honour to be selected to represent your state and these players will benefit from the experience gained playing in national competitions.
